Former President OLUSEGUN OBASANJO and popular Islamic scholar, Sheikh ABUBAKAR GUMI, have called on government to do all necessary to end all forms of criminality in the country.
They also want the Federal Government to rehabilitate bandits who are willing to surrender their arms and turn a new leave.
OBASANJO and GUMI met yesterday to discuss and propose possible solutions to the security challenges in Nigeria.
The meeting, which held at the residence of the former president in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, was part of efforts to find solutions to the menace of banditry, kidnapping, and payment of ransom, among other security threats in the land.
In their resolution, OBASANJO and GUMI acknowledged that people outside Nigeria were also involved in the mayhem unleashed on the people in various parts of the country.
But Constitutional lawyer, Barrister FRED NZEAKO said the joint statement came as a surprise, considering the precedent of the former president on security matters.
