Obasanjo And Sheikh Gumi Asks FG To End All Forms Of Criminality In The Country

Former President OLUSEGUN OBASANJO and popular Islamic scholar, Sheikh ABUBAKAR GUMI, have called on government to do all necessary to end all forms of criminality in the country.

They also want the Federal Government to rehabilitate bandits who are willing to surrender their arms and turn a new leave.

OBASANJO and GUMI met yesterday to discuss and propose possible solutions to the security challenges in Nigeria.

The meeting, which held at the residence of the former president in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, was part of efforts to find solutions to the menace of banditry, kidnapping, and payment of ransom, among other security threats in the land.

In their resolution, OBASANJO and GUMI acknowledged that people outside Nigeria were also involved in the mayhem unleashed on the people in various parts of the country.

But Constitutional lawyer, Barrister FRED NZEAKO said the joint statement came as a surprise, considering the precedent of the former president on security matters.

Buhari. Obasanjo, Tinubu And Sanwoolu Pays Tribute To The Late Former Lagos State Governor, Lateef Jakande

President BUHARI has paid tribute to the late former Lagos State Governor, Alhaji LATEEF JAKANDE, describing him as one whose legacy would be remembered for long.

He believes the former Governor who died yesterday at 91 sacrificed his life for others, restating that his imprint in the commercial centre will continue to be a source of inspiration.

While condoling with family, friends and associates of the elder statesman, BUHARI described JAKANDE as a patriot, whose wisdom will run through generations, especially in putting people first in development plans.

In his tribute to JAKANDE, the national leader of APC, BOLA TINUBU, said the former Lagos governor was the last of the titans.

Governor SANWO-OLU, on his part described JAKANDE as one of the best public office holders in the political history of Nigeria.

On his part, former President OLUSEGUN OBASANJO said JAKANDE would be remembered as a fine journalist.

Obasanjo writes Buhari again, warns him to end violence across the country

President OLUSEGUN OBASANJO has again written another letter to President BUHARI, warning that Nigeria is tipping towards a dangerous cliff and only him could forestall such a looming disaster.

He said Nigeria has been consumed by violence and ethnic divisions since BUHARI assumed office four years ago, in a manner not seen for decades.

In the Letter, OBASANJO said the world, especially Western countries, has been warning Nigeria against descending into a state of violence because any outbreak would be difficult to contain.

He therefore warned that for President BUHARI to be able to stop the “smouldering ethnic agitations”, he would have to stop fanning “the embers of hatred, disaffection and violence.”

The former President also called on armed herdsmen to publicly state their grievances in order to form a national discussion around it, rather than waging a violent campaign across the country.
