Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has expressed optimism that the political crisis between him and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, will be resolved.

During a visit by the Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Musa, at the Government House in Port Harcourt, the state capital, he said there is nothing wrong with a father and a son having problems, stressing that all issues, if any, will be resolved.

Fubara aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s call for peace and security in the country, especially ahead of the off-season elections later this month.

Wike Warns Against Tampering With Rivers State Politics

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has warned against any attempt to tamper with the political structure in Rivers.

Wike warned after a closed-door meeting with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, led by its chairman and Bauchi state governor, Bala Mohammed, in Abuja.

The governors of Adamawa, Ahmadu Fintiri, Caleb Muftwang, Plateau, and Agbu Kefas of Taraba accompanied Mohammed.

The relationship between Wike and Fubara is said to have gone sour following the impeachment threat, which some have accused the minister of instigating.

But Wike explained that the impeachment move was not a military coup but in line with the provisions of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The former Rivers governor also dismissed the report, making the rounds that the altercation was born out of his interest in the state's finances.

Governor Mohammed said the President was willing to douse the tensions and perceived fallout between them.

The PDP governors later had an emergency meeting where they expressed satisfaction with the leadership qualities displayed by President Tinubu.

He said the opposition governors will continue to support the president in discharging his duties.

The governors also decided to meet with Fubara and Wike later today.

PDP Breaks Silence As Wike Fubara Meet Tinubu At Presidential Villa Abuja

Amidst the ongoing political turmoil in Rivers State, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a resounding call for a calm and peaceful resolution.

On Tuesday, October 31, 2023, the PDP's National Working Committee (NWC) released a statement emphasizing the need for dialogue and peaceful solutions in addressing the current political dispute. The NWC urged all parties involved in the disagreement to pursue a peaceful resolution and encouraged PDP members and supporters to remain composed.

The party assured the public that it had initiated internal conflict resolution processes to address and resolve all areas of contention.

The recent escalation of tension between Nyesome Wike and Siminalayi Fubara came to the forefront when an attempt to impeach Governor Fubara failed, raising concerns about the political stability of the state.

However, in a surprising turn of events, Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, were seen shaking hands at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. They, along with several other state governors, including Yahaya Bello (Kogi), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Abdullahi Abba (Kano), and Bassey Ottu (Cross River), attended a closed-door meeting of the Police Council, chaired by President Bola Tinubu.

The meeting also included notable figures such as the chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC) and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP).
