South-East Governors Say They Believe Political Solution Is Still Possible In Case Of Proscribed IPOB Leader, Nnamdi Kanu

Governors of the South-East Geo-Political zone have agreed to set up a 24-hour joint patrol in all major highways within the South-East, especially, during the Christmas season.

Ebonyi State Governor and Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum, Dave Umahi, said this after a closed-door meeting at the Government House, Enugu.

The governors raised the alarm over the spate of kidnappings and wanton killings in the zone and called on the federal government to come to their aid.

The host governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and that of Enugu, Okezie Ikpeazu were in attendance. While the governors of Imo and Anambra were represented by their deputies.

The governors also insisted on a “political solution” as a possibility on the charges filed against leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

Federal Government Loses Application To Transfer Suit Against Proscribed Ipob Leader, Nnamdi Kanu To Abuja

The Federal Government has lost its bid to transfer the suit of the extraordinary rendition of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Ipob Nnamdi Kanu, from Umuahia to Abuja.

The Federal High Court in Umuahia, Abia State, insisted that it has the jurisdiction to hear and determine the suit.

This was disclosed by Kanu’s Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, in a tweet noting that the matter was still ongoing.

The Special Counsel was challenging Kanu’s abduction and extraordinary rendition from Kenya.

He is, among other things, praying the court to order his return to Kenya, where he was abducted or UK, his country of abode.

FG Withdraw Newly Amended Charge Against Kanu

The Federal Government has withdrawn the newly amended charge against the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, NNAMDI KANU.

Earlier, KANU had been denied a bail application by Justice BINTA NYAKO of the Federal High Court in Abuja on the grounds that his absence in the past, since 2017, should be determined, before a bail application, would be entertained.

Upon withdrawal of the newly amended charges by the FG, the Federal High Court struck out the charges preferred against KANU.

US Lawyer Threatens Sanctions Against Nigeria, Alleges Compromise

A United States of America-based lawyer and counsel to detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), NNAMDI KANU, BRUCE FEIN, has threatened to push for sanctions against Nigeria over alleged human rights abuses.

FEIN, who spoke shortly after the trial of KANU was adjourned to Jan 19, 2022 by Justice BINTA NYAKO of the Federal High Court, alleged compromise in the trial of KANU Abuja.

He also threatened to take Nigeria to the international court over alleged human rights abuses.

The US lawyer added that when the attention of the court was drawn to the fact that they were outside the court protesting about what happened, the court, rather than calling attention of the lead counsel to find out what was going on, went ahead to discuss with KANU.

However, EJIOFOR speaking with journalists stated that KANU's lawyers did not walk out on the court but were prevented by security operatives from accessing the courtroom.
