Impressive Barcelona Ease Past Napoli

Barcelona put in an impressive performance to beat Napoli and reach the Europa League last 16.

They led by two goals when Jordi Alba finished off a counter-attack from Adama Traore’s ball and Frenkie de Jong curled in a stunning shot.

Lorenzo Insigne gave Napoli hope with a penalty to make it 3-2 on aggregate.

But Gerard Pique scored and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang fired into the top corner from Traore’s pass, with Matteo Politano netting a late consolation.

Barcelona will discover their last-16 opponents – one of the Europa League group winners – in Friday’s draw.

Both sets of players stood with a banner saying ‘Stop War’ before kick-off in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Napoli Miss Chance To Go Top Of Serie A

Napoli missed the chance to go top of Serie A after Victor Osimhen’s 87th-minute header salvaged them a 1-1 draw at relegation-threatened Cagliari.

Gaston Pereiro put Cagliari ahead near the hour mark with a long, bouncing shot, but Osimhen came off the bench to level the scores with three minutes to go on Monday night.

Napoli failed to capitalise on Inter Milan’s shock 2-0 home defeat to Sassuolo on Sunday, and instead remain behind last season’s champions on goal difference in third after coming away with a point against Cagliari.

A win for Inter a day earlier they would have moved them to the top of the table themselves, but are now two points behind AC Milan with a game in hand on their cross-city rivals.

Victor Osimhen on Target As Napoli Thrash Udinese

Victor Osimhen started the ball rolling as Napoli climbed to the top of Serie A with a resounding 4-0 victory over Udinese at the Dacia Arena.

The visitors took the lead with 24 minutes gone when Osimhen, who had scored both goals as his side fought back to secure a 2-2 Europa League draw at Leicester on Thursday evening, struck from close range after running on to Lorenzo Insigne’s lob.

It might have been 2-0 within seven minutes when Fabian Ruiz’s long-range strike came back off the woodwork, but the reprieve proved temporary when defender Amir Rrahmani headed home Kalidou Koulibaly’s 35th-minute cross.

Gerard Deulofeu passed up an opportunity to reduce the deficit eight minutes before the break and Koulibaly effectively wrapped up the points within seven minutes of the restart with Napoli’s third, substitute Hirving Lozano’s late strike simply cementing a comfortable win which eased them from third place to first.
