Corps Member Stabbed To Death In Kaduna

In a heartbreaking incident, a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Grace Chalya Silas, fell victim to a fatal stabbing in Kaduna State, presumably at the hands of armed robbers.

The Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, confirmed that the tragic event occurred during the early hours of Thursday.

According to the PPRO, the young woman was engaged in her morning exercise when a group of criminals ambushed her, apparently to rob her of her phone. He recounted, "Some individuals stabbed her while performing her workout along GRA road in Barnawa this morning. Riding a motorcycle, the suspects intercepted her and attempted to snatch her phone. In the struggle to grab the phone, one of the suspects used a sharp knife to inflict a fatal wound."

Upon receiving the distressing news, the police acted swiftly and rushed her to Harmony Hospital, where, regrettably, medical professionals confirmed her passing.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Musa Yusuf Garba, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the matter, with the assurance that the law enforcement will exert every effort to ensure that those responsible for this heinous act face justice.

Ministerial Nominee Balarabe Faints During Screening

During his screening before the Senate, the Kaduna State ministerial nominee, Abbas Balarabe, collapsed suddenly. This occurred immediately after he concluded his presentation and received praise from one of the Kaduna senators.

In response to Balarabe's collapse, Senate President GodsWill Akpabio urgently called for water and sugar while summoning Dr. Musa. Following this, a closed-door session was promptly convened.

Balarabe had been nominated as a replacement for the former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai. This nomination was conveyed in a letter Akpabio read during Tuesday's plenary session.

Dr Jamila Ibrahaim and Ayodele Olawande were also named Minister of Youths and Minister of State for Youths, respectively, as earlier nominated by the President.

Balarabe, a former Secretary to the Kaduna State government, had been appointed in April to head a 65-member transition committee in anticipation of Uba Sani's swearing-in.

It is worth noting that in August, the Senate declined to confirm the nomination of El-Rufai, alongside former Nexim bank Managing Director Stella Okotete (Delta State) and Abubakar Danlandi, a nominee from Taraba State. Out of the 48 nominees presented by the President, 45 were successfully confirmed as ministers by the Senate.

Tribunal Dismisses Ashiru’s Petition, Affirms UBA’s Election

The Kaduna State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in the state capital has dismissed the petition of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate in the 2023 election, Isah Ashiru against the victory of Governor Uba Sani of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a dissenting judgment of two against one, a three-member panel headed by Justice Victor Oviawie dismissed the petition on the ground that the pre-hearing notice was filed out of time and therefore deemed to be abandoned.

The tribunal chairman and another member held that the appeal brought by PDP and Ashiru against the dismissal of their petition at the preliminary stage by the first and second defendants was not meritorious because the filing of the pre-hearing notice was abandoned and out of time.

However, the tribunal noted that if the petition had not been dismissed for lack of merit, it would have ordered a supplementary election in 22 polling units within 90 days in the substantive judgment.

PDP and Ashiru are challenging the declaration of Governor UBA as the winner of the March 18th governorship election.

Lawyers to the two parties spoke after the judgment. First was the the APC counsel.

Governor Sani equally expressed happiness over the judgment.

Kaduna State Has Not Been Renamed To Zazzau State, Says Govt

The Zazzau State story that surfaced in the media has been denied by the Kaduna State Government.

In a statement, Muyiwa Adekeye, the state governor's special adviser for media and communications, denied the report's assertion that the state had changed its name.

Adeleke urged residents of the state to disregard the complex work of fiction that made the claim that the state will be renamed and labeled the news as phony.

”Please ignore the elaborate piece of fiction that made the claim. It is fake news,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the news making the rounds on some online platforms claimed that the National Assembly had passed the a Bill renaming Kaduna State, which was subsequently sent Senate President Ahmad Lawan to President Buhari for ascent.

It also claimed that the bill which was jointly sponsored by Senator Suleiman Abdu Kwari and Senator Uba Sani of Kaduna central got the approval of 13 members out of 15 of the lower chamber representing different parts of Kaduna State

”The bill was deliberated in the Red Chamber and got 2/3 support of the Senate.

It quoted also the clerk of the National Assembly, Ojo Amos, as saying that ”123 Civil Organizations from different parts of Kaduna State who supported the name change of the state to Zazzau said the new name was in tandem with the history of culture of the people of the state

”Now that the President Buhari has signed the name change it into law, it will be reflected in the amendment of the 1999 constitution,” it stated.

While reacting to the report, the Senator, representing Kaduna Central, Sen. Uba Sani, told NAN that the report was nothing but pure lie from the pit of hell.

Sani expressed dismay at what he described as a concocted, subversive, malicious and false information circulating in the social media claiming that President Muhammadu Buhari had even signed the bill for the creation of Zazzau State.

He said that the claim that the Bill was allegedly co-sponsored by him in the Senate with Senator Sulaiman Abdu Kwari, was false and had no iota of truth.

“My immediate reaction to this outrageous and patently false piece of information is to wonder how mischievous elements can allow their imaginations to run riot, all in a bid to undermine their political opponent.

“How can people go to the extent of planning to destabilise their own state and worsen the insecurity situation because,” he said.
