Governor Sanwo-Olu Raises Hopes Of Rescue Of More Survivors Of Ikoyi Building Collapse

Two more bodies have been recovered from the rubble of the collapsed 21-storey building on Gerrard Road in the Ikoyi area of Lagos, taking the death toll to 21 while nine persons have so far been rescued.

This comes as Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who visited the site of the crash, said there was a clear violation of the provisions of the building law in Lagos State, promising that those behind the construction of the high-rise tower would face prosecution in the court of law.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, who noted that a probe panel had been set up to determine what caused the building to crash, expressed optimism that more survivors would be found.

Sanwo-Olu later announced the name of survivors who are undergoing treatment at the Lagos Marina Hospital.

26-Year-Old Onyinye Trapped Under Collapsed High-Rise, One Week After Joining Fourscore Homes

A female graduate of the Nnamdi Azikwe University, Onyinye Enekwe, on Monday, left for Ikoyi where she worked as a personal assistant to the owner of Fourscore Homes, Femi Osibona

Chinedu Enekwe, her cousin, said Onyinye joined Fourscore Homes the week before.

Around 2pm on Monday, the building came crashing down, with Onyinye and several others still trapped in the rubble as of Wednesday night.

According to Chinedu, the family has heard nothing from Onyinye since the tragic disaster occurred

Chinedu added that Onyinye had taken a picture of herself at the site, which she sent to her older sister just as she arrived at work on Monday morning.

He said the family has received “no information” from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) or other rescue workers concerning her whereabouts.

Inspiration FM recalls that on Tuesday distraught family members of persons trapped under the rubble of the collapsed building openly expressed their worries and fears over the fate of their loved ones with wild cries of agony.
