Soyinka’s Son Denies Rumored Attack On Father’s Abeokuta Residence By Suspected Herdsmen

In a related development, the residence of Nobel Laureate, Professor WOLE SOYINKA, located in Abeokuta Ogun State, was neither attacked nor invaded by suspected herdsmen.

His son, Dr OLAOKUN SOYINKA confirmed this in a statement, after rumours had made the rounds that his home had been under attack and invaded by cows.

He, however, confirmed that cows did stray into the land belonging to the Nobel Laureate.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. EDWARD AJOGUN who visited the residence following the report, explained that three cows indeed strayed into the compound of the literary icon.

While giving an assurance of adequate protection of life and property, the state police boss described the incident as a trespass on the part of the herders.

SAN, Afenifere Criticizes The Presidency Over Its Stand On Ondo State Government’s Ultimatum To Herdsmen

Senior lawyers and groups, including Afenifere and the Yoruba Council of Elders have criticized the Presidency over its stand on the State Government’s ultimatum to herdsmen operating in the state’s forest reserves.

You will recall that the Ondo state government had issued a seven-day ultimatum to herdsmen operating in its forest reserves to register or quit the area within seven days.

It said the forest reserves had become hideouts of kidnappers.

However, the Northern Elders’ Forum directed the Fulani herdsmen to disregard the notice to quit the forest reserves in the state.

The Presidency, in a statement by the President’s Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, GARBA SHEHU, faulted the governor, saying he should not act outside his constitutional powers.

On a telephone interview with Inspiration FM, the Secretary General of the Yoruba Council of Elders, Dr. KUNLE OLAJIDE, described as unconstitutional, the reaction of the Presidency.
