England beat Australia to set up Spain showdown in their first Women’s World Cup final

England has made more history by reaching their first Women’s World Cup final, defeating Australia 3-1 to set up a match against Spain on Sunday.

The pre-match stroll centered on who would be regarded the underdog – the Euro 2022 champions or tournament co-hosts – as well as the two countries’ strong sporting history.

And it all added up to an exciting semi-final at Stadium Australia. Ella Toone (36) curled in a beautiful attempt as England drew first blood after the Matildas conceded their first World Cup goal since the second group game against Nigeria – a stretch of well over five hours.

Australia’s talismanic captain, Sam Kerr, returned to the XI and had her inevitable say in the 63rd minute, blasting home a spectacular shot from roughly 25 yards.

But England’s tournament pedigree began to shine through shortly after, with Lauren Hemp (71) putting the Lionesses back ahead before Alessia Russo (86) secured their place in Sunday’s showpiece final against Spain.

While co-hosts Australia, who had a fantastic home crowd in Sydney, can no longer win the tournament, they can finish third when they meet Sweden in the play-off on Saturday.

Germany Claim Impressive 5-2 Victory Over Italy In Nations League Game

Germany became the first team to put five goals past Italy in a game since 1957 in their Nations League demolition in Monchengladbach.

Hansi Flick's side led 5-0 after 69 minutes through goals from Joshua Kimmich, Ilkay Gundogan's penalty, Thomas Muller and a quick-fire Timo Werner double.

18-year-old Wilfried Gnonto seemed to get a mere consolatory goal as he became Italy's youngest ever scorer and Alessandro Bastoni headed in a second to reduce the deficit to 3.

The win was Germany's first competitive victory against Italy ever.

The last time Italy conceded so many goals in a game was 65 years ago when they lost 6-1 to Yugoslavia in the Central European International Cup.

Italy keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma said: "We are angry, there are no excuses tonight. We have to look each other in the eyes and restart in order to show that this is not the real Italy. We lacked everything tonight.

"We are very sorry for the fans, especially the Italians living in Germany. We all made mistakes tonight. I made a big one and I take responsibility for that."

Germany are unbeaten in 13 games under Flick although this was their first Nations League victory after three draws. They are one point behind group leaders Hungary.

Roberto Mancini's Italy had been unbeaten in the group.

Hungary's 4-0 win over England means the two Euro 2020 finalists conceded a combined nine goals on Tuesday.

Elsewhere, Belgium kept the pressure on the Netherlands at the top of Group A4 with a 1-0 win over Poland.

Michy Batshuayi's diving header from Youri Tielemans' cross in the first half proved to be the only goal in Warsaw.

The Netherlands beat Wales 3-2 to stay three points above their rivals.

Netherlands Ends Germany’s Winning Run After 1-1 Draw In Friendly

Germany's eight-game winning run under head coach Hansi Flick came to a halt as substitute Steven Bergwijn earned the Netherlands a draw in Amsterdam.

Thomas Muller scored the opener for the away side as the four-time world champions took the lead in the friendly before Bergwijn levelled.

The hosts thought they had won a penalty after Memphis Depay went down after a challenge by Thilo Kehrer.

However, the referee reversed his decision after watching the incident again on the pitchside monitor following VAR consultation.

Germany seemed to have turned a corner since Flick took over from Joachim Low following last summer's last-16 exit at the European Championship.

But they were handed a stern test by Louis van Gaal's side who are also now unbeaten in nine games since the Euros.

Chelsea's Timo Werner almost got on the scoresheet also as he headed against the bar before the Netherlands' Donyell Malen, who plays his club football in Germany for Borussia Dortmund, raced clear only to fire wide.

Muller's goal came on the stroke of half-time in his 112th appearance for Germany.

The goal was not quite enough to earn his side a win, however, as Bergwijn struck from inside the box 10 minutes after coming on, the Tottenham player's third goal for his country during this international break.

Both teams [Netherlands and Germany] have already qualified for the World Cup which takes place in Qatar between 21 November and 18 December.

Germany Offers To Train Nigerian Policemen On How To Handle Protests Without Guns Amid Controversial ENDSARS Report

The German government has asked the Federal Government to release at least 30,000 Nigeria Police personnel for special training in Germany.

They would be taught how to manage protests among Nigerians without using weapons.

A high-level delegation from Germany, which visited the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, MUSILIU SMITH specifically said it was willing to train the new crop of recruits into the Nigeria Police Force on best practices on street protest management.

The team, led by a retired Inspector-General of the German Federal Police, MATTHIAS SEEGER, had earlier visited the force headquarters where they interacted with the Inspector-General of Police, USMAN BABA.

But the German’s position on the management of protests without the use of firearms was countered by SMITH, who said Nigerian protesters were usually armed and law enforcement agents have to defend themselves and other citizens from assaults by the protesters.
