Osun Govt Threatens To Seal Stations Hoarding Petrol

Amid the fresh fuel scarcity in Nigeria, the Osun State Government has threatened to seal off any filling station hoarding Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) known as petrol.

Governor Ademola Adeleke, in a statement by his Spokesman, Olawale Rasheed, said any fuel station found guilty of hoarding fuel shall be sealed off and operators prosecuted for crime of economic sabotage.

The fresh fuel scarcity in the country followed the inaugural pronouncement by Nigeria’s new President, Bola Tinubu, who said yesterday that the era of subsidy payment on fuel has ended.

In similar development, the Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, has warned oil marketers to avoid imposing needless hardship on the citizens through the creation of artificial fuel scarcity in the state and beyond.

The Governor issued the warning in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary Rafiu Ajakaye.

On his part, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said nothing has changed in the pronouncement of President Tinubu to warrant any form of scarcity.

Airline Operators Warn Of Impending Flight Disruptions, Cancellations Over Aviation Fuel Scarcity

Nigerian airlines, under the aegis of Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) have said there will be disruption of scheduled flight operations over the growing scarcity of aviation fuel.

The spokesperson of AON, Obiora Okonkwo said this in a public notice he issued.

The statement said the scarcity of aviation fuel is impacting negatively on the seamless conduct of air transport operations and “would lead to flight rescheduling, and, or, cancellations”.

The statement said the association and its members are working very hard, and in alliance with product marketers, government and relevant stakeholders, to ensure availability and proper pricing of aviation fuel in the country.

Two weeks ago, some airlines had complained about the rising cost of aviation fuel and threatened to shut down operations.

The proposed strike was aborted after Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker, House of Representatives, convened a meeting of all stakeholders in the industry, including marketers and the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Office of the Vice President, Laolu Akande, who spoke to the media after Wednesday’s cabinet meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, said that the Group Managing Director of the NNPC briefed the Council on the availability of petrol.
