Messi Extends PSG Contract

Paris Saint-Germain have revealed that World Cup-winning Argentina captain Lionel Messi has agreed to extend his contract at the Parc des Princes for at least another season, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2023-24 season, when he will be 37.

During the World Cup, PSG had regular discussions with Lionel Messi’s father and agent, Jorge Messi, and Le Parisien reported that a verbal agreement was reached several weeks ago at the beginning of December.

The news appears to put an end to speculation about a possible return to Barcelona, who were rumored to be preparing to use another financial level to facilitate Messi’s return to Camp Nou.

Inter Miami, owned by David Beckham, has also been linked to Messi, but will have to wait at least another 18 months to get their man.

According to the Paris-based publication, PSG had little trouble convincing Messi to stay, with Messi and his family happy and settled in Paris and the new contract providing an opportunity for him to continue playing at the highest level.

Prior to the World Cup, rumors circulated that the former Barcelona star was doubting his ability to continue playing elite-level soccer, but his outstanding performances in Qatar, where he scored eight goals, including two in the final against France, demonstrated that he still has a lot to offer.

December 20, 2022 Sky Sports Label The Belgian National Football Team ‘Underachievers’ of World Cup

Sky Sports Label The Belgian National Football Team ‘Underachievers’ of World Cup

Sky Sports, the British sports media powerhouse, has ranked Belgium poorly in the just finished 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, labeling them the tournament’s underachievers.

They made the announcement in an Instagram post after the conclusion of the World Cup. They also named their player of the tournament, young player of the tournament, and tournament manager.

Belgium, which was ranked second in FIFA’s most recent global rating in October, was eliminated from the World Cup in the group stage after failing to keep up with the other teams in Group F.

Belgium’s first encounter was against Canada, which they barely overcame 1-0. They subsequently lost 2-0 to Morocco and drew 0-0 with Croatia, totaling four points, which was insufficient to advance them to the round of 16.

Sky Sports analyst, Gary Neville, who was quoted on their Instagram page said, “The manner in which they were eliminated, the communications coming out of the camp didn’t feel right.

“I think Belgium fell out of love with each other, having grown old together things got a bit stale and sometimes things need breaking up. Things you would never expect were coming out of the camp.”

Despite being eligible to return to the France team, Karim Benzema will not be joining them for the World Cup final on Sunday, December 18.

Benzema departed the France camp after suffering a thigh injury on the night of the tournament in Qatar, but his name remained in France’s squad.

According to the Daily Mirror, Didier Deschamps’ lack of excitement about a possible reunion has left the 34-year-old forward unhappy.

The French manager refused to comment on Benzema’s return to the team after France advanced to their second straight World Cup final with a victory against Morocco.

Benzema, 34, had a thigh injury on the eve of the competition, although it is said that it was not as bad as the French national team reported.
