Man Utd Ease Into Europa League Round Of 16

Shola Shoretire became the youngest player to appear for Manchester United in a European game as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side eased into the last-16 of the Europa League with a goalless draw against Real Sociedad.

At 17 years and 23 days, Newcastle-born Shoretire beat the record of Norman Whiteside by 108 days on a night when January signing Amad Diallo also made his first appearance at Old Trafford.

They were notable milestones on an evening when Bruno Fernandes went closest for the hosts in the opening period as he smashed a lay-off from Fred onto the crossbar.

However, the best chance turned into a miserable failure for visitors' skipper Mikel Oyarzabal.

Presented with the opportunity to give his side an early lead from the penalty spot, Oyarzabal copied Fernandes' distinctive skip as he went to strike the ball and sent it so far wide it almost hit a photographer by the side of the goal.

Daniel James had a header saved by Alejandro Remiro before the break and Marcus Rashford, who took over the captain's armband when he replaced Fernandes at half-time, went close after it.

Axel Tuanzebe thought he had scored his first United goal when he powered in Alex Telles' corner, only for the intervention of the video assistant referee to halt Tuanzebe's celebrations.

Their victory means there will be four British sides in the Europa League last 16, with Tottenham, Arsenal and Rangers all advancing, although Leicester were eliminated by Slavia Prague.

Leicester Suffer Shock Europa League Exit After Slavia Prague Defeat

Leicester suffered a shock Europa League exit after suffering a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Slavia Prague at the King Power Stadium.

After last week's 0-0 draw in Prague, Brendan Rodgers' side still had plenty of work to do but, in the absence of the rested Harvey Barnes and the injured James Maddison, they struggled to find their rhythm on Thursday.

Their task was made even harder as Lukas Provod's 49th-minute away goal left them with a mountain to climb.

Rodgers sent on Barnes in the 61st minute but the damage had already been done and Abdallah Sima's strike in the 79th minute rounded off a memorable European night for the Czech side to send them into Friday's last-16 draw.

After a disappointing night, Leicester's focus will now switch back to the Premier League where they will look to build on what has already been a promising season and secure a top-four spot and Champions League football, while they still have an FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester United to look forward to next month.

Dele Alli Stars As Spurs Ease Into Europa League Round Of 16

Dele Alli scored a stunning overhead kick as Tottenham beat Wolfsberger 4-0 to cruise into the Europa League last 16 with an 8-1 aggregate victory.

Alli marked his return to the Spurs starting line-up with a sensational bicycle kick inside 10 minutes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and sealed a man-of-the-match performance with second-half assists for Carlos Vinicius and Gareth Bale.

With Spurs' 4-1 first-leg lead extended to an even more handsome advantage, Jose Mourinho took the opportunity to blood some youngsters, with 16-year-old Dane Scarlett registering his first senior assist for the club as Vinicius doubled his tally late on.

The victory provided Spurs with some much-needed respite from their stuttering domestic campaign and sees them become the first British side to qualify for the last 16 ahead of Friday's draw.

Gareth Bale Impressive As Totteham Ease Past Wolfberger In Europa Last-32 First Leg

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho said they had "one foot in the next round" after Gareth Bale inspired them his side to victory over Wolfsberger in the Europa League last 32 first leg.

Bale crossed for Son Heung-min to head the opener and then got on the score-sheet after blasting home their second goal. That was the first time since April 2013 that he scored and assisted a Tottenham goal in the same game.

Lucas Moura added a fine solo goal before half-time in Budapest.

But Michael Liendl's penalty gave Wolfsberger hope and Christopher Wernitznig hit the bar - before Carlos Vinicius probably killed the tie.

Wolfsberger were limited opposition, sitting sixth in the Austrian league and in a European knockout game for the first time. The game had to be played six hours away in Budapest, Hungary because of Covid19 restrictions.
