FG May Declare State Of Emergency In Anambra Ahead Of Governorship Election

The Federal Government has vowed that the November 6 governorship election in Anambra State will hold even if it takes declaration of a state of emergency.

Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, announced this after the Federal Executive Council meeting.

Malami said the government will do everything possible to ensure the protection of lives and property.

The south-eastern state has been targeted by gunmen in recent times — leading to the loss of lives and properties.

Anambra Gets Fourth Police Commissioner In Eight Months

The IG of police has deployed a new Commissioner of Police to Anambra State.

The new Commissioner of Police is Echeng Eworo Echeng.

He is the fourth CP to be deployed in the state within a period of eight months.

Echeng is taking over from Tony Olofu who has been transferred to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, who announced the deployment of the new police chief in the state said the erstwhile police commissioner has been redeployed to the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

He noted that the IGP also ordered the deployment of a detachment of the police “Special Forces to Anambra State to bolster and complement the ongoing peace-building efforts of the Nigeria Police Operation Restore Peace in Anambra State.”

A mob has set ablaze a police station in Igboukwu in the Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Report says the police station was put on fire early today.

According to report, trouble began when some policemen on duty in the area killed a commercial motorcyclist last night over extortion.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, HARUNA MOHAMMED confirmed the incident.

He said the Commissioner of Police in the state, JOHN ABANG, had ordered the arrest of the officer who killed the commercial motorcyclist while appealing for calm.

Police arrests a woman for attempting to sell baby in Anambra.

Police operatives attached to Ojoto Division in Anambra State have arrested one Emila Sunday who claimed to be 21 years old from Akwa Ibom State, for attempting to sell her three months old baby boy at Ire-village Ojoto for N150, 000 on Tuesday, November 24.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the woman was attempting to sell her three-month-old baby boy which the suspect claimed was due to hardship.” The spokesperson of the state police command, Haruna Mohammed, who confirmed the incident, said the rescued baby is in good condition and that further investigation is ongoing.

The PPRO said the baby had been rescued in good health condition, adding that investigation was ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the matter.
