Atiku Condemns Killing Of Nabeeha, Urges Security Reform

The 2023 presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, has expressed sadness at the killing of Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar, who was abducted alongside her siblings.

Alhaji Mansoor Al-Kadriyar and his six children, including Nabeeha, were taken from their home in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, on the second of January.

Nabeeha, a 400-level student of biological science at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, was tragically killed last Friday.

It was gathered that the gunmen had earlier released their father, asking him to get N60 million in ransom for the release of his daughters before Friday, January 12.

The hoodlums killed the oldest of the six girls, Nabeeha, and dumped her body somewhere for her parents to bury, as they were unable to raise the money and have now increased their demand to N100 million.

In reaction, Atiku said it is yet another reminder that kidnappers and bandits are operating unhindered in the country, while noting that the security architecture needs to be rejigged to the extent that it stems the free rein of criminal elements and guarantees the safety of lives and property.

Also reacting, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi, said the tragic killing not only shows how insecurity currently ravages the nation but also shows “how helpless Nigerians have become in the face of these dangers.”

According to him, the latest tragedy should prick the conscience of leaders to realize their primary duty, which, according to the constitution, is to protect the life of every Nigerian citizen.

Moreover, the FCT Police Command recently confirmed the deteriorating security situation in the nation’s capital. It said that there had been a series of reported cases of kidnapping within the FCT and claimed that the command was on top of the situation.

NNPP Applauds Atiku, Welcomes Merger Of Opposition Parties

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has described it as a welcome development, following former Vice President Atiku Abubakar's proposal that opposition parties merge to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election.

At a press conference in Abuja, the Acting National Chairman of the party, Abba Ali, said the merger of opposition parties before the 2015 elections led to the defeat of the then-ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) by the APC.

ALI stated that the NNPP sees the call from the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, as patriotic, for which it unreservedly commends him.

He restated the party’s earlier stance that, while it fully embraces the initiative and applauds it as a matter of necessity, it looks at it from a much larger perspective and considers all factors inherent in it.

Atiku, Obi Celebrate Jonathan At 66

People’s Democratic Party's presidential candidate in the February 25 elections, Atiku Abubakar, and his Labour Party counterpart, Peter Obi, have extended their warm wishes to former President Goodluck Jonathan on his 66th birthday.

Abubakar, expressing his admiration for Jonathan on his X account on Monday, commended the former president as a distinguished figure embodying democracy, peace, and freedom. He acknowledged Jonathan's enduring commitment to these ideals, emphasizing its inspiration and guidance in the sub-region and the entire African continent.

"As we mark this significant milestone, I send heartfelt wishes for your sustained well-being and profound wisdom. May the path ahead be as impactful and enriching as the enduring legacy you've established," Abubakar stated.

In a separate congratulatory message on Monday, Peter Obi expressed gratitude to God for Jonathan's contributions to Nigeria, Africa, and global democracies during his tenure as both President and former President. Obi specifically commended Jonathan's recent mission to Liberia, which resulted in a run-off election. He highlighted the nostalgia among Nigerians for Jonathan's dedication to democracy in 2015, emphasizing the former president's memorable quote, "My political ambition is not worth the blood of any Nigerian."

Obi acknowledged Jonathan's rare patriotism, which elevated Nigeria's standing in global democracies despite concerted efforts to undermine it. He concluded his message by praying for God's blessings on Jonathan's health and continued positive contributions to the country and humanity.

Jonathan, Nigeria's president from 2010 to 2015, was born in 1957 in Bayelsa State.

Nigeria Greater Than Your Ambition To Be President, APC Replies Atiku

The All-Progressives Congress (APC) has told the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President, that Nigeria is greater than his unrealized ambition to be president.

Hours after the press briefing, the APC, in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said the country has moved on.

It claimed that the PDP candidate had missed the opportunity to use his press conference to “redeem his prestige as an elder and statesman by rising above political pettiness and offering befitting congratulations to President Tinubu on his electoral victory.

The party added that rather than vindicate him, history will not forget Atiku’s unwillingness to put the country first and above his political ambition.

In a separate statement, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Atiku must now end what he described as an “unprofitable” bid to become the President of Nigeria.

Onanuga said there was no way Atiku and the PDP could have won the election with the party platform under which he contested, broken into four parts.
