NDLEA Says Drug Cartel Was Working for Suspended DCP Abba Kyari

The embattled Deputy Commissioner of Police, ABBA KYARI has claimed that members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN) are behind his travails.

According to a report obtained by Daily Trust, KYARI made this claim when he appeared before a probe panel led by JOSEPH EGBUNIKE, a Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

In a report submitted by the panel to the Inspector-General of Police, USMAN BABA, which was in turn forwarded to the Police Service Commission, KYARI said the outlawed IPOB and its armed wing were after him due to the onslaught launched against them in the South East.

KYARI, who did not deny violating social media rules of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), was berated by the panel for the fact that the officer had been warned against the same practice previously.

But the panel, which faulted his claim, saying it is watery, ordered his demotion from the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police to Assistant Commissioner of Police.

In another vein, KYARI and four others may spend more time in the custody of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency as the NDLEA has approached a Federal High Court in Abuja informing the court of its intention to detain the suspects beyond the stipulated 48 hours.

Coalition Of Northern Groups Demand Review Of Kyari’s Suspension

The Coalition of Northern Groups has kicked against the suspension of the embattled Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. ABBA KYARI following his indictment by a US Court.

Spokesman of the Coalition, comprising civil society organisations and non-governmental bodies, ABDULAZEEZ SULAIMAN spoke at a news conference after its meeting in Kaduna state.

He noted that both the Nigerian police authorities and the FBI breached KYARI's fundamental rights by not allowing him to be heard before taking the hasty actions against him.

They have, therefore, demanded an immediate review of the suspension and have also asked that the ongoing investigation with the FBI be transferred to the Nigerian Intelligence Agency.

Mr. ABBA KYARI was suspended by the Police Service Commission following his indictment in the case of alleged fraud linked to popular socialite, RAMON ABBAS, a.k.a HUSHPUPPI.

According to a statement by the commission's Head of Public Relations, IKECHUKWU ANI, the suspension took effect from July 31, and would subsist pending the outcome of the investigation.

The commission also directed the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, to furnish it with information on further developments on the matter for necessary further action.

Former RRS Commander Replaces Abba Kyari As Head Of Police Intelligence Team

The Inspector-General of Police, USMAN BABA, has named TUNJI DISU as head of the Intelligence Response Team— a unit once led by embattled DCP ABBA KYARI.

The Police Service Commission had suspended KYARI on the recommendation of the IGP over his alleged relationship with international fraudster, RAMON ABBAS, better known as HUSHPUPPI.

HUSHPUPPI had alleged that he bribed Kyari to arrest and jail “one of his rivals in Nigeria after a dispute over a $1.1 million scam on Qatari business people”.

But KYARI denied any wrongdoing, saying he never collected money from HUSHPUPPI.

In a statement, Force Spokesman, FRANK MBA said the appointment of DISU “is on the heels of management’s decision to fill the leadership gap within the IRT and refocus the unit for better service delivery”.

Prior to his appointment as the new Head of the IRT, DCP TUNJI DISU, a former Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Lagos State, was Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
