March 28, 2023 Rema Continues to Break Record on Billboard Hot 100 Chart

Rema, the award-winning Nigerian superstar, has broken yet another record on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

As Afrobeats continues to gain popularity globally, Nigerian artists are making their presence felt on the international music scene.

Rema's remix of 'Calm Down' featuring Selena Gomez has now become the highest-charting African song on the Billboard Hot 100, breaking the previous record held by Wizkid's 'Essence' featuring Tems and Justin Bieber.

The song climbed to No. 8 on the chart last week and has held on to its position for two weeks, extending its record to thirty weeks while entering its 53rd week on the chart.

Since its release, 'Calm Down' has received massive international success and is currently the most-watched Afrobeats music video on YouTube, with over a billion streams across all platforms.

The song has also earned platinum plaques in several countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, and France.

On this week's Billboard Hot 100 chart, Libianca's 'People' retains its No. 2 position, while Tems' 'Free Mind' stays at No. 3. Ayra Starr's 'Rush' remains at No. 4, and Burna Boy's 'Last Last' rises to No. 5. Wizkid's 'Essence' drops to No. 6, CKay's 'Love Nwantiti' stays at No. 7, Fireboy's 'Peru' remains at No. 9, and Oxlade's 'Ku Lo Sa' drops to No. 10. Additionally, Adekunle Gold's 'PNDS' debuts at No. 8 on this week's chart.

As Nigerian music continues to gain global recognition and success, it's evident that the genre's artists are setting new records and breaking barriers on the international music scene. Rema's latest achievement on the Billboard Hot 100 chart is a testament to the genre's growing influence and the world's increasing appetite for Afrobeats.
