President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the nation’s armed forces, security and intelligence agencies to intensify the clampdown on illegal refineries following the reports of deaths of several people when an illegal refinery exploded at Abavi forest, in Egbema community, Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State.
Reacting to what he described as a catastrophe and national disaster, President Buhari said the responsibility for the loss of lives and property must squarely lie with operators of the illegal refinery, who must all be caught and made to face the full weight of the law.
According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the president appealed to community leaders, the police and secret service not to ever allow the occurrence of such tragic incidence in any part of the country again.
