February 6, 2024 Police Recover Baby Sold For N800,000 By Maid

The police have successfully recovered the baby who was abducted by a maid over the weekend in Shomolu and subsequently sold for N800,000.

According to SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police spokesperson, the infant was found in the early hours of yesterday at Alade Market in Shomolu, Lagos Mainland, as reported on his verified X account.

The search for the missing baby gained momentum over the weekend after an X user, @Simmm_K, raised the alarm about the abduction. @Simmm_K, who identified the baby's mother as her colleague, shared details of the incident and urged people to look for the maid and the baby, providing a picture and a contact number for information.

An update provided by @Simmm_K revealed that the maid was apprehended in Ikorodu, although she did not have the infant. The maid confessed to selling the baby for N800,000, prompting intensified efforts on social media to locate the child.

In response to the situation, Hundeyin stated, "Due to intense manhunt and pressure from the police, the buyer in the early hours of today (yesterday) abandoned the baby in Alade Market, Shomolu." He further added that the baby was promptly rescued by the police and reunited with her parents after identification. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the buyer, who is currently evading authorities.

@Simmm_K later updated her post, confirming that the baby had indeed been found in the early hours of yesterday, expressing gratitude to everyone involved in the search and the police for their assistance in reuniting the baby with her family.
