May 8, 2024 Police Initiate Investigation Following Expulsion of Students from Ekiti University for Bullying

Authorities at the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science, and Technology, Ikere Ekiti, have expelled two female students involved in the bullying of a fellow student. The decision came after a video of the incident went viral on social media, sparking widespread outrage.

The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adeniran Akinwale, announced on Tuesday that an investigation had been initiated into the matter.

According to a statement from the university's Public Relations Officer, Mr. Temitope Akinbisoye, the expelled students, identified as Miss Opemiposi Precious Bolaji and Osaro, were found guilty of misconduct and violating the institution's rules. Bolaji was seen assaulting another student, Miss Gloria Ajayi, while Osaro provided the stick used in the assault.

The statement clarified that the university's disciplinary committee reviewed the incident and recommended expulsion for the guilty parties. Additionally, Miss Mistura Adejuwon and Miss Precious Olanrewaju, who recorded and shared the video on social media, were cautioned against such actions in the future.

Mr. Olawale Ajewole, another student allegedly involved, was cleared of any wrongdoing after attempting to intervene to prevent further harm to Ajayi.

The university reiterated its commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all students and encouraged anyone experiencing or witnessing harassment to report it promptly.

Meanwhile, the police commissioner instructed the Ikere Area Commander to collaborate with the university's management to identify and investigate the perpetrators, ensuring they face the legal consequences of their actions.
