August 23, 2023 NYSC Orientation Camp Resumes In Borno After 13 Years

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has marked a momentous occasion by launching an orientation camp in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.

This marks the revival of the camp after a lengthy 13-year absence, stemming from its closure in 2011 due to the escalating Boko Haram insurgency.

With the inauguration of Batch ‘B’ Stream 2 corps members, the Maiduguri orientation site came to life once more. NYSC State Coordinator, Mohammed Adamu, took a moment to extend appreciation to Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum for his instrumental role in reinstating the orientation program in the state.

Under the vigilant watch of the military, police, civil defensedefence, and civilian joint task force personnel, the corps members have found a temporary abode at the Arabic Teachers College, a provisional orientation venue.

Six hundred twenty-nine males and 496 females constitute the current corps members training in this revitalised setting.

Governor Zulum shared his joy regarding re-establishing the orientation camp in the state. He conveyed that this symbolic move underscores the gradual restoration of peace and security to the region after enduring years of insurgency.

In a visionary stride, Governor Zulum has directed NYSC officials to actively identify graduates specialising in science, medical, and para-medical fields, potentially paving the way for their future employment opportunities within the state government's workforce.
