April 2, 2024 Nine Abducted Delta Students Regain Freedom

The Delta State Police Command has successfully rescued nine students who were abducted along the East-West Road in Ughelli, Delta State, as reported by Channels Television earlier.

The students, who were traveling in a minibus, were abducted on Monday, prompting swift action from the police. Confirming the rescue, the state police public relations officer, Edafe Bright, announced the good news on his X handle, quoting Channels Television's report and stating, "All nine of the victims have regained their freedom, please."

According to the initial report, the abductees were believed to be students returning from their school in Calabar, Cross River State, on Friday night. Fortunately, the bus driver remained unharmed, and no ransom demands were made by the kidnappers.

"The command is aware of this ugly incident, and we are doing all it takes to ensure that they are rescued unhurt," the state PPRO reiterated earlier on Monday.

This successful rescue operation comes less than a month after the abduction of 137 schoolchildren from the LEA Primary School and Government Secondary School in Kaduna State on March 7. Tragically, the abduction resulted in the loss of a teacher, Mallam Abubakar, due to complications during the captivity period.

Following their rescue, Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, pledged to provide free education to the schoolchildren and ensured they received counseling and therapy from psychologists to help them recover from their traumatic experience.
