July 31, 2023 National Assembly Approves Wike’s Ministerial Role

The Senate has given its approval for the immediate past governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, to assume a ministerial role in the government.

In a video shared by a Twitter user, Imran Muhammad, Wike was seen arriving at the National Assembly complex on Monday, accompanied by his wife.

He is among the first set of ministerial nominees presented to the Senate by President Bola Tinubu.

As reported earlier, the Senate has commenced the screening of the 28 ministerial nominees submitted by President Tinubu. The President is expected to create new ministries and form his complete cabinet within the next two weeks.

Following the reading of the nominees' names on the floor by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, the Senate spokesperson, Yemi Adaramodu (Ekiti South), announced that all other activities in the Upper Chamber have been suspended to promptly begin the screening process.

Adaramodu said, “Screening will commence on Monday. We have suspended all the rules to accommodate the screening of the nominees.

“We were supposed to proceed on our vacation today (Thursday) but it has been suspended for this screening. We are starting the screening on Monday. We are not going to allocate time to nominees to talk.”
