February 19, 2024 Mercy Eke Reflects On Not Winning Big Brother Naija For The Second Time

Reality TV star Mercy Eke recently shared insights into why she didn't clinch victory for the second time on Big Brother Naija. Although she emerged as the winner of the 'Pepper Dem' season in 2019, she fell short in the all-star edition in 2023, finishing as the runner-up to 22-year-old Ilebaye.

During a candid conversation on a recent episode of Celebrity Quickies, hosted on comedian AY's YouTube page, Eke attributed her loss in the second round to a peculiar phenomenon: people being "allergic to winners."

Reflecting on her experience, Eke remarked, "The first time I entered the Big Brother House, it was all positive vibes, with lovely people. I played the game and emerged victorious. However, upon my return for the second stint, I discovered a prevailing sentiment against past winners."

She elaborated, "There seemed to be a mindset of 'She already had her chance, she can't have it again.' People were reluctant to accept the idea of a repeat winner. There was this notion that because I had tasted success before, others deserved the opportunity more."

Despite the disappointment, Eke found value in the second experience, acknowledging that it provided clarity about people's true intentions. She expressed gratitude for the insight gained, viewing it as a testament to divine providence. "This second experience helped me see people for who they truly are. I didn't realize that aspiring to win again could be frowned upon. Nonetheless, I still consider myself a winner," she concluded.
