March 18, 2024 Lagos State Government Begins Ounje Eko Discounted Sunday Food Markets In 57 Locations

The state government has commenced the 'Ounje Eko' food markets in fifty-seven locations across the five divisions of the state.

The food items are sold at a 25% discount at the market, which is open every Sunday.

Items on sale include rice, beans, eggs, semovita, tomatoes, and onions.

The markets opened at 27 locations in Ikeja: six on Lagos Island; nine in Ikorodu; five in Epe; and 10 in Badagry.

Our correspondent, Nicholas Anyamene, visited the Victoria Island center, where the coordinator of the market, Opeyemi Adepoju, assured residents of adequate food items to cater to the needs of intending buyers.

However, there were mixed feelings among the residents, as some complained about the prices while others commended the state government for the initiative and hoped for improvements in the coming weeks.

Another visit to the Coker Aguda Center saw a large turnout of residents. The Council Chairman, Razaq Olalekan, said the location resorted to using the Lagos State Resident, LASRRA, card to curb sharp practices.

He, however, allayed the fears of residents who do not yet have the cards.
