March 18, 2024 Lagos Renews Push For 37 LCDAs Constitutional Recognition

The Lagos State government has made a firm decision to actively pursue the inclusion of the 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the ongoing Constitutional Review process, aiming to legalize these council development areas.

This resolution was among the key points discussed and outlined in a communiqué issued following the 18th edition of the Executive/Legislative Parley, themed "Engaging All for an Inclusive Governance: Hands-on for a Greater Lagos Rising."

The communiqué emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts between the executive, federal lawmakers representing the state, and the state legislature in advocating for a "special status" for Lagos during the ongoing constitution review.

Dr. Afolabi Tajudeen, the Special Adviser, Office of Political, Legislative, and Civic Engagement, signed the communiqué, stressing the imperative to raise awareness and educate the populace about the significance and functions of each arm of government.

During the discussions, participants floated the idea of temporarily suspending certain taxes, levies, charges, and rates, along with proposing rebates where necessary to support the most vulnerable amidst prevailing economic challenges. Additionally, recommendations were made for the reinstatement of a school feeding program targeting primary schools across the state.
