April 15, 2024 Kano Ward Exco Suspends APC Chairman Ganduje

Members of Ganduje Ward in the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State have suspended Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). This decision was announced by the Executive Council of Ganduje Ward, led by Haruna Gwanjo, during a press briefing held in Kano on Monday.

Gwanjo cited corruption allegations surrounding Ganduje's involvement in a long-standing dollar case as the reason for his suspension. A viral video from 2017 purportedly showed Ganduje receiving bundles of dollar notes as a bribe from a contractor and concealing them in the folds of his garment. Despite initially denying the video's authenticity and maintaining his innocence, Ganduje's case was revisited by the administration of Governor Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).

The Kano High Court is set to arraign Ganduje on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, on charges related to bribery, diversion, and misappropriation of funds, including allegations of accepting $413,000 and N1.38 billion in bribes. Alongside Ganduje, his wife and six others will also face arraignment, as announced by the Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Haruna Dederi.

The Yusuf administration, which initiated the criminal proceedings against the eight respondents, has expressed its readiness to present 15 witnesses to testify before Justice Usman Na’aba of the State High Court.
