December 7, 2023 Kaduna Bombing A Mistake, Shouldn’t Warrant COAS Resignation — Senator

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, Senator Abdul’aziz Yar’Adua, characterized the tragic drone attack that resulted in the loss of numerous lives in Kaduna as an unintended error.

He emphasized that this incident should not be a reason for the resignation of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja.

In an exclusive interview conducted on Wednesday, Senator Yar’Adua commended the COAS for openly acknowledging the mistake and urged for a focus on fostering peace. This response comes in the wake of calls from the Northern Elders Forum for the resignation of top military officials in the aftermath of the incident, which claimed the lives of at least 85 villagers and left several others injured in Tudun Biri village, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, on Sunday.

Senator Yar’Adua underscored that precision miscalculations are not unique to the Nigerian Army and encouraged a measured perspective on the matter. In addition, he advised the Kaduna State Government to instruct Muslim community members to inform the government consistently about significant gatherings in the state. This, he argued, would enable authorities to reinforce security measures and prevent similar occurrences in the future.
