January 25, 2024 I Might Venture Into Politics – Bbnaija’s Seyi Awolowo

In a recent revelation, Seyi Awolowo, a former contestant on the Big Brother Naija reality show, shared his intentions to step into politics. The 33-year-old, known for participating in the popular TV show, opened up about societal expectations placed on him as the descendant of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, a prominent Nigerian nationalist and statesman pivotal in the country's path to independence.

During a Tuesday interview on a monitored program, Seyi, the 20th grandchild of Chief Awolowo, expressed his contemplation of entering politics, citing the current state of affairs in the country as a motivating factor. While initially harboring a preference for an entertainment career, Seyi acknowledged the compelling circumstances that might lead him towards politics.

In his words, "To be honest, I would have preferred not to delve into politics, but considering the prevailing situation in the country, I might have to. Initially, I wanted to enjoy and contribute to the entertainment sector. However, my commitment to family growth in Nigeria has influenced my perspective."

Seyi emphasised his desire for his family to experience the richness of Nigeria, echoing his grandfather's legacy. He preferred to remain in the country rather than seek opportunities abroad, highlighting the importance of enjoying the diverse cultural landscape and unrestricted access to all 36 states.

Reflecting on the expectations placed on him as an Awolowo descendant, Seyi mentioned that from childhood, people had often drawn comparisons between him and his grandfather, urging him to follow in the footsteps of the renowned nationalists. Despite the initial reluctance, Seyi acknowledged the evolving circumstances and hinted at a potential shift towards a political path for the sake of his family and the country's future.

Seyi Awolowo's disclosure sheds light on his internal conflict between personal aspirations in entertainment and the sense of responsibility tied to his family legacy, hinting at a possible foray into Nigerian politics.
