September 28, 2023 Hoodlums Beat Commercial Driver To Death In Jos

The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed the tragic killing of a commercial driver, Fwinbe Thomas, by suspected hoodlums in Jos.

Thomas accidentally collided with a motorcycle rider while heading home from work, prompting a violent pursuit by enraged individuals on motorcycles. This led to his untimely demise along Tudun Wada Ring Road.

In a statement, the spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, Alabo Alfred, expressed strong condemnation of the assailants' actions while confirming Thomas's death. The Commissioner of Police, CP Okoro Julius Alawari, expressed deep concern over the unlawful killing.

According to the statement, the police patrol team promptly responded to the distress call and discovered Thomas critically injured beside a damaged Suzuki Mini Bus. The victim is suspected to have suffered fatal injuries at the hands of hoodlums, believed to be illegal commercial motorcyclists known as "Okada Riders" operating in Jos Metropolis/Bukuru.

The statement assured that efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators. The Commissioner called for calm, assuring residents that justice will prevail. He sternly warned against resorting to vigilante justice, urging citizens to allow law enforcement agencies to handle such cases.

The investigation is ongoing, and updates will be provided in due course. The Commissioner also reiterated the ban on motorcycle use (popularly known as Okada) within Jos Metropolis and Bukuru.
