January 9, 2024 Gunmen Assassinate Ogun Chief

In a tragic incident, unidentified gunmen have taken the life of the prominent traditional chief, Adeyinka Folarin, known as the Baasegun of the Itunsokun community in Ogun State. The assailants, suspected to be cultists, reportedly attacked on Monday night at around 8 p.m. at Folarin's residence in Sagamu.

Two unnamed traditional rulers have confirmed the chief's demise, expressing their sorrow over the incident. One commented, “The information is accurate, but I lack comprehensive details about the incident. We received reports that the chief, a well-known traditional leader and member of the Akarigbo in-council, was killed last night. He is commonly known as Baasegun, but we cannot definitively attribute this atrocious act to specific individuals. We trust the police and other security agencies to carry out their investigations.”

An anonymous staff member from Sagamu Local Government revealed that the shocking incident prompted a swift shutdown of the local government offices for the day to prevent potential violence associated with the killing. The source stated, “Tension is escalating in the town as we speak. Workers are vacating the local government secretariat promptly to avoid any involvement in potential unrest. While many speculate that cultists targeted the chief, there is no concrete confirmation at this point; information is still limited.”

Despite attempts to obtain a reaction from the Ogun State Police Command, the spokesperson, SP Omolola, has yet to respond since filing this report. The community awaits further updates and investigations into this unfortunate incident.
