Renewed cult clashes in Edo State have resulted in the tragic deaths of three youths, with one victim currently listed in critical condition in a hospital in Benin.

The deceased, identified as Eze, Bobor, and Romeo, met their untimely ends in separate incidents. Eze and Bobor were fatally shot while driving in a Lexus SUV at Obagie in Ikpoba/Okha Local Government Area, while Romeo was gunned down in his betting shop on Second East Circular Road, near the Esigie Divisional Police Headquarters in Benin.

Reports indicate that the clashes were triggered by a land dispute between the Amagba and Obagie communities on the outskirts of Benin.

Confirming the clashes, police spokesperson Chidi Nwabuzor urged residents to provide timely and useful information to aid law enforcement efforts.

Meanwhile, in Veterinary Area, NorthBank, Makurdi, Benue State, a cult clash escalated into communal strife between Tiv and Jukun youths, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and the destruction of 70 houses.

Eyewitnesses recounted how the initial cult clash spiraled into wider violence, leading to property destruction worth millions of naira.

James Dwem, Chairman of Makurdi Local Government Area, appealed for peace as he visited the affected area, urging the warring factions to lay down their arms.

As tensions remained high, Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Adesina was seen patrolling the area with his team of officers to maintain calm and security.
