Nollywood actress Eniola Ajao has issued a public apology to Nigerians regarding the unfolding events following her selection of trans woman Bobrisky as the 'Best Dressed Female' at the Beast of Two Worlds movie premiere.
In an Instagram post on Thursday, March 28, 2024, Ajao addressed the controversy and drama surrounding the movie premiere, expressing regret and seeking forgiveness from the public.Beginning her statement, she wrote, “Dear Esteemed Members of the Public, I write to you today with a heavy heart, filled with regret and remorse over the events that unfolded at my movie premiere, BEAST OF TWO WORLDS 'AJAKAJU,' #ajakajuthemovie on Sunday, 24th March, 2024. I address you all today, taking full responsibility and seeking your pardon with my deepest regrets for the distress and turmoil caused by the events surrounding the selection of Best Dressed at the premiere of 'AJAKAJU.'"Ajao extended her apologies to the Muslim community, emphasizing her respect for the sacred month of Ramadan and clarifying that no offense was intended.
She stated, "I want to extend my sincerest apologies to the Muslim community, especially during this sacred month of Ramadan. I acknowledge and respect the significance of this time, and it was never my intention to offend or upset anyone with the proceedings of our premiere."Furthermore, she apologized to women, acknowledging the importance of upholding and honoring gender dignity and respect. She assured women of her utmost reverence for womanhood and vowed never to engage in behavior that diminishes women's roles in society.Ajao also offered a personal apology to veterans Femi Adebayo, his wife, and Dayo Amusa, who were involved in a heated exchange on social media over the matter. Additionally, she apologized to Bobrisky, emphasizing that her intention was not to cause harm.
To rectify her mistakes, Ajao named two females as the Best Dressed, Bode Alao and another attendee from the premiere, and pledged to award each of them ₦1,000,000 as a token of her sincere apology.It is noteworthy that Ajao had previously admitted in an interview with Arise News TV that selecting Bobrisky was a deliberate strategy to promote the movie.
