April 9, 2024 Eid-El-Fitr: FG Extends Public Holiday To Thursday

The Eid-El-Fitr celebration's public holiday has been extended by the Federal Government to Thursday, April 11th, 2024.

Originally, a two-day holiday was declared for Tuesday and Wednesday, but with the crescent moon not sighted in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, prompting the Eid celebration to be moved to Wednesday, an extra day was added to the holiday.

A statement from the Ministry of Interior Permanent Secretary, Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, announced the additional public holiday. The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, emphasized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's commitment to ensuring a safe and prosperous Nigeria. The declaration of Wednesday, April 10th, as Eid-Fitri day came from the Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, following reports from the National Moon Sighting Committees across the country confirming the moon had not been sighted.

Wishing blessings and guidance, the Sultan urged the Muslim Ummah to continue praying for peace, progress, and development in Nigeria.
