February 20, 2024 Distillers Protest Sachet Alcohol Ban At NAFDAC Office

Employees of the Distillers and Blenders Association of Nigeria (DIBAN) voiced their discontent through a protest held at the Lagos office of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in the Isolo area of the state.

The demonstrators, comprising association members, brandished placards bearing messages such as 'Let poor Nigerians breathe' and 'Let beverage workers breathe,' underscoring their grievances.

Today's demonstration marks the latest in a series of protests initiated since February 1st, when NAFDAC commenced enforcement of a ban on alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and bottles of 200 ml and below.

NAFDAC's Director-General, Mojisola Adeyeye, reiterated that no such beverages had been registered with the agency, justifying the ban's enforcement.

The protesting group has issued a stern warning, threatening to escalate their protests nationwide and target various NAFDAC offices if the ban is not rescinded.
