April 17, 2024 Court Sets Date for Decision on Motion to Transfer Nnamdi Kanu from DSS Detention

Justice Binta Nyako of the Abuja Federal High Court has scheduled May 20 for a decision regarding an application seeking to relocate Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Following arguments presented on the application, Justice Nyako adjourned for a ruling. Kanu's lead counsel, Alloy Ejimakor, asserted that his client's continued detention in DSS custody could hinder the court's directive for an expedited hearing.

Ejimakor advocated for Kanu's transfer to house arrest or similar custodial arrangements, citing previous instances involving other defendants such as Sambo Dasuki and El-ZakZaky. However, the prosecutor, Adegboyega Awolomo (SAN), urged the court to reject the application.
