A Federal High Court in Minna, Niger State's capital, has ordered the arrest of General Farouk Yahaya, the Chief of Army Staff.

Justice Halima Abdulmalik, who issued the warrant and presided over the case, said that the order came as a result of a notification filed with the court in accordance with order forty-two rule ten of the Niger State High Court Civil Procedure 2018.

The judge declared that the decision reducing Yahaya's sentence to Minna correctional prison for contempt of court on October 12, 2022, and that the COAS must stay in jail until he is "purged" of the contempt.

In addition, the court ordered that Major General Olugbenga Olabanji, Commandant Training and Doctrine Command, Minna, be arrested and imprisoned for a similar violation.

The matter was subsequently remanded until December 8 for further proceedings by Justice Abdulmalik.

According to a verified source, on November 29, a Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced Usman Baba, the Inspector General of Police, to three months in jail for defying a court order.

The IGP's conviction followed a suit brought by Patrick Okoli, a police officer who was unjustly and compulsorily resigned from the Nigerian Police Force.

The court further ordered the petitioner to pay N10 million in special and general damages for the unlawful, illegal, and unconstitutional deprivation of his (Patrick's) rights and privileges as a Senior Officer of the Nigeria Police Force from 1993 to the present.
