Newcastle Midfielder Sandro Tonali Is Still Eligible Despite A 10-month Ban For Violating Betting Rules

Newcastle are in an unusual situation of ambiguity, with midfielder Sandro Tonali set to travel with the squad for Saturday’s game against Wolves despite a 10-month suspension.

According to an Italian source, the 10-month ban is still subject to approval by Italian authorities. Tonali is open for selection until formal ratification occurs on Friday afternoon.

The 23-year-old, a £55 million summer transfer from AC Milan, will miss the rest of Newcastle’s season as well as Italy’s Euro 2024 finals campaign if they qualify. Tonali will be unable to play competitive football until August 2024, although he will be able to train with Newcastle and play in friendlies until then.

Tonali had been cooperating with the inquiry, and his legal team was working on a plea bargain after admitting to betting on AC Milan to win games in a session at the Italian Federation in Turin.

Mikel Arteta Reports That Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus And Thomas Partey Will Be Absent For A Few weeks Due To Muscular Issues

Arsenal have been dealt a double injury blow, with Gabriel Jesus and Thomas Partey both ruled out for several weeks with muscular ailments.

Jesus was forced off with an apparent hamstring injury after his goal and assist propelled Arsenal to a 2-1 Champions League win over Sevilla on Tuesday, while Partey was ruled out due to an injury sustained in training.

Following the game, the pair underwent scans, with manager Mikel Arteta stating at his press conference on Friday that they will miss time.

Both players have already missed time this season owing to injury, with Jesus needing knee surgery in August and Partey only recently returning from a groin condition.

I’m Just Doing My Job — Onana

Manchester United's goalkeeper, Andre Onana, isn't one to revel in praise, even after his spectacular late penalty save secured maximum points for the Red Devils in their Champions League clash against Copenhagen.

Despite his immense scrutiny since joining Manchester United this summer, the 27-year-old Cameroon international has remained steadfast in his commitment. He's endured his fair share of criticism this season for the goals conceded while guarding the Ten Hag-led defence.

The previous Champions League game witnessed a similar scenario: he took partial responsibility for his team's loss to the Bundesliga Champions. However, it seems that the former Inter shot-stopper is finding his form. His heroic late saves against Jordan Larson ensured that Harry Maguire's 72nd-minute header was the match-winning contribution.

Post-match, Andre Onana downplayed his role, stating, "I'm just doing my job; the most important thing is to win against a tough team. I am happy about the victory; we had a good game and a big goal from Harry [Maguire]. We are Manchester United. We are a big club with big players. It's just a matter of time; we must continue like this. I have no doubt we will make it."

His focus remains firmly on the team's success, reinforcing his dedication to Manchester United's cause.

October 24, 2023 Jadon Sancho Manchester United Career Is 90 Percent Over

Jadon Sancho Manchester United Career Is 90 Percent Over

Jadon Sancho is reportedly expected to leave Manchester United in January, with the winger's career at the club considered to be '90 percent over'.

Sancho has been training on his own at the academy facilities since the beginning of October after Erik ten Hag exiled him for publicly branding the United manager a liar over his reasons for dropping him for the 3-1 away defeat by Arsenal.

The 23-year-old winger works alone at Carrington, where he is forbidden to mix or eat with his team-mates.

It is understood that the player can come in from the cold if he says sorry to Ten Hag, but only if the apology is sincere.

So far, Sancho has refused to give his manager the apology he wants and is showing no signs of backing down despite the appeals from senior club figures and his team-mates.

According to a report from Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United officials believe Sancho has to find a new club in January.

The club reportedly knows that a permanent deal is unlikely to be struck in January for the winger, who cost the club £73m in the summer of 2021, with a loan deal considered a more likely prospect.

I think they [United] know at the moment that it’s not going to be a permanent transfer; that could be a loan deal with a buy option included,' Romano said.

'So, in January, they will be open to any opportunity, of course.

'Of course, they would prefer a permanent transfer; that would be perfect to have their money back after what they spent on Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.

'At the moment, the people from Manchester United are very clear; it looks like it’s 90 per cent over between Jadon Sancho and Man United.

'We keep a 10 per cent because we know that anything can happen in football, but as of today, it reminds us of the situation with Cristiano Ronaldo one year ago.

'The feeling is that Jadon has to find a new club in the January transfer window.'

Manchester United were prepared to accept £45m for Sancho in the summer.

United are prepared to take a significant loss on Sancho if it means supporting Ten Hag, who was brought in to improve discipline, which had lapsed under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.

After six-and-a-half weeks of training on his own, there is a growing feeling that even if he were to apologise now, Ten Hag would see it as empty and unacceptable.

One of the core tenets of Ten Hag's Old Trafford reign has been firm authority, and he did not shy away from banishing Cristiano Ronaldo after he refused to come on against Tottenham and left the stadium early in October 2022.

Sancho's absence from the first team followed his outburst on social media after he was dropped from the squad against Arsenal in September.

He wrote on X, formerly Twitter: 'I have conducted myself in training very well this week' and 'I've been a scapegoat for a long time, which isn't fair!'
