Ooni Marries New Wife Months After Naomi’s Exit

Late on Tuesday, Mariam Anako, the new wife of Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, arrived at the palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

After a few formalities at the building's entrance, the new bride was led into the palace.

She was then escorted into the palace's inner court, where her husband and other guests were waiting to greet her.

Around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, in a video posted on his spokesperson Moses Olafare's Facebook page, Oba Ogunwusi welcomed his new wife into the palace with the help of other chiefs and trusted advisors.

The ceremony's compere also noted the presence of the Ooni's elder brother, Sooko Adegboyega Ogunwusi, as well as the monarch's other siblings.

Anako's relatives from Ebiraland in Kogi State and Ilorin in Kwara State were also present during the ceremony, and they each gave the Ooni a warm welcome in turn.

About ten months after the monarch's previous wife, Naomi Silekunola, left him, a new wife entered the palace.

Specifically, Naomi declared her split with the monarch on December 23, 2021, ending a union that lasted around three years and gave birth to a son named Tadenikawo.

Ooni’s spokesperson, Moses Olafare, could not be reached for further comment on Wednesday as calls to his line rang out.

It was reported that Naomi announced her separation from the monarch through an Instagram post in December 2021.

She had also renounced the title of a ‘Queen’, saying she tried to make the three-year union work but the Ooni’s public identity is at variance with “his true self”.
