Terrorists Flog Kidnapped Victims In New Video

The family members of the victims seen in the video say they have lost hope in the capacity of the federal government and security agencies to rescue their loved ones.

In the video, the terrorists were seen threatening to kill the victims if the Federal Government failed to meet up with their demands.

They also claimed that one of the escapees of the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Kuje, Abuja had rejoined them in the forest.

The remaining 43 victims had been told to pay N100 million to secure their release.

In an interview, a spokesperson for the family members, Sani Usman accused the government of sabotaging their efforts.

The statement read: “Terrorist activity using propaganda and the use of violence to force governments to accept or submit to political demands is not new all over world.

“The country’s security and defence forces are not clueless or helpless. They have their plans and ways of doing things, which they will not display in the media.

“The dilemmas in dealing with the specific case of train terrorists are manifold: punitive action like the popular call for carpet bombing of the known locations may assuage the desire of an angry public for revenge, but what about the hostages? They have committed no offence. All they did was to board a train.

“It suffices to say that the security forces are not relenting. They are acutely aware of their duties, responsibilities and what the nation expects of them. Whenever they embark upon those actions, they expect that the public should provide them with the needed support.

“Terrorism is a global scourge that must be fought by all actors— the military, the civilian population and the communication service providers. This is the only way safe havens of terrorists are eliminated in every part of the world.

“To help the nation against ongoing situation, the media must increase their support for the fight against the exploitation of the internet and social media for terrorist purposes.

“The Presidency, in the meantime, wishes to reassure the public that the President has done all, and even more than what is expected of him as Commander-in-Chief by way of morale, material and equipment support to the military and expects nothing short of good results in the immediate.”

Reacting to the threat to abduct the president in an interview with Inspiration FM, Security Analyst, Onyekachi Adekoya said though it is sad, it shows the extent of the risk that the daredevil insurgents are willing to take.

Lagos Businessman Accuses Police Of Extortion, Petitions IG

Mudasir Adeleye, a 40-year-old businessman, claims that members of the Area C Police Command in Ojuelegba, Surulere, have tried to extorted money from him.

According to information found online, Adeleye hired a commercial bus on Wednesday to transport some items to his client.

However, police officials from the command stopped the car on the way and demanded N20,500 as a "gate fee."

The businessman, who is involved in the manufacture of plastic, stated, "A thug commonly known as Ogun and some cops, led by DSP Okinola, came to harass us. The bus driver had simply stopped at a filling station next to Area C Police Command because the vehicle was overheating.

“They demanded the driver’s key and we started pleading with them, explaining what happened, but they did not listen. The driver did nothing wrong, but all our pleas still fell on deaf ears.

“They later called a towing van to take the vehicle into their premises.

“We waited from 8.45am till 4.15pm before they answered us. After pleading for a long time, they told us to pay N10,000 for the towing vehicle, 10,000 for settlement and N500 for gate fee.”

Adeleye said he paid a cash of N25,000 to Okinola before the vehicle was released.

Ogun, aka Police Dog, allegedly worked as an agent of extortion for the police in the community.

The driver of the vehicle, Toyin Adejumo, said policemen in the area always extorted money from residents.

He said, “The officers are used to doing this; they have made it a norm especially since the ban on Okadas. We did nothing wrong, yet they stopped us and collected N20,500 from us after delaying us for a long time.”

Our correspondent saw a petition written by a human rights committee, the iRelief Waaf Foundation, regarding Adeleye’s complaints.

The petition, which was signed by the foundation’s Secretary General, Momoh Raimi, and addressed to the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, dated July 13, 2022, demanded an investigation into the “professional misconduct” of the cops.

The petition partly read, “Sir, we therefore humbly request that you use your good offices to fully investigate this alleged professional misconduct of illegally demanding and collecting money and the use of proxies to extort our people and conceal their illicit acts.

“It is also our prayer that appropriate disciplinary action be meted out to DSP Okinola and his team if found wanting, so as to serve as a deterrent to other corrupt elements in the force.”

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, could not be reached for comment as a text message sent to his line had yet to be replied to as of press time.

The Force Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, denied knowledge of the petition.

He said, “It will pass through the Deputy Inspector-General of Police before I receive it. For now, I am not aware of it.”
