Off-Season Polls: INEC Pledges To Upload Results On IReV

With days to the November 11, 2023, off-season governorship polls in Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo states, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured Nigerians that polling unit results will be uploaded in real-time on the Result Viewing Portal (IReV).

It also said sensitive materials will be moved from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) vaults to Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo today, Monday.

The Commission’s Acting Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Mary Nkem, stated this in Abuja.

The official said all the glitches experienced during the general elections earlier in the year had been resolved.

She also stated that the Commission conducted mock accreditation recently in all three states, which was optimally carried out.

Lagos Cancels 50% Discount On BRT Fare

The State Government has cancelled the 50% transport fare reduction on all Public Transport Systems that was implemented in response to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s directive in a bid to cushion the effects of subsidy removal on Lagosians.

The Governor had on July 31 announced the fare reduction, noting that it would affect all state-owned buses by 50% and commercial yellow buses by 25%.

In a public notice, the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) announced a reversion to the old rates of public transport.

The statement informed commuters that starting today, Monday, November 6, 2023, transport fares will return to the pre-2nd August 2023 rate.

It also advised Lagos residents to take note of the change and get prepared to pay regular transport fare rates before the reduction was announced in July and took effect in August.

Red Line Rail Project: Governor Sanwo-Olu Commissioned Oyingbo Flyover On Sunday

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commissioned the Oyingbo Overpass Bridge in preparation for the launch of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Red Line project.

The Red Line Rail Project will start from Ebute Metta in Oyingbo, all the way down to Agbado. It will reduce train-vehicle interaction on the Red Line Rail, which will also reduce accidents on the axis.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, in his speech at the event, spoke about the essence of the Overpass Bridge, among others.

The governor said it would serve as an alternative during the closure of the third mainland bridge.

He also said several students from institutions of higher learning were exposed to bridge construction while the project lasted.

Also present at the occasion were: Lagos Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat; Lagos Assembly members; Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu; government functionaries; party chieftains; traditional rulers; and several other functionaries.

FG Shuts Adekunle End Of Third Mainland Bridge

The report says that the Third Mainland Bridge will be shut for five weeks for repairs as of Monday, November 6, and the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Olukorede Kesha, has been discussing the closure.

Kesha, while addressing journalists on the bridge, notified the motoring public that the repair works were scheduled to commence with the ramps connecting Oworonshoki to Adekunle and Lagos Island (Adeniji Adele) to Adekunle simultaneously.

She stated that consequently, the two ramps will be closed to traffic and reeled out alternative routes for motorists.
