Grammy Award Winner Burna Boy Criticizes Afro Beats, Calling It ‘Lacking Substance’

According to the singer, 90 per cent of Afro beats songs are devoid of real-life experiences and only portray an amazing time that life isn’t all about.
The self-styled African Giant made this known in a recent interview on Apple Music.
“Not even experience, because half of them, like 90%, have no real-life experience they can understand.”
“That’s why you hear most Nigerian music, African Music, or Afro beats, as you people call it, is mostly about nothing, absolutely nothing.

There is no substance to it like nobody is talking about anything. It’s just a great time. But at the end of the day, life isn’t an amazing time.”

West Ham Sign Ex-Arsenal Defender From Stuttgart

West Ham United have signed Greece defender Konstantinos Mavropanos from Stuttgart for an undisclosed fee.

Mavropanos, 25, has signed a five-year contract with the Hammers and has taken the number 15 shirt.

Arsenal signed him in January 2018 but only made seven Premier League appearances before being loaned out.

"I'm looking forward to the next step in my career," he said. "I will give everything for the shirt.

"I am really happy and excited to be here and back in the Premier League."

Mavropanos, who has been capped 19 times by Greece, becomes West Ham's third summer signing after midfielders James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez arrived from Southampton and Ajax, respectively.

He played 34 times for Stuttgart in all competitions last season as the German side narrowly avoided relegation and made 89 appearances overall, scoring eight goals.

Mavropanos joined the Bundesliga club from Arsenal on a season-long loan in July 2020, which was extended for a second season before the move was made permanent.

Hammers boss David Moyes backed Mavropanos to provide competition to the club's existing defenders.

"I'm pleased to welcome Konstantinos to West Ham," said the 60-year-old Scot.

"We've been looking to add to our centre-half options this summer, so it's good we've brought in an international defender of his ability.

"We're looking forward to integrating him into the group.”

Tennis Icon Serena Williams Welcomes Second Child, Names Her Adira River Ohanian

Serena Williams, renowned in the world of tennis, has celebrated the birth of her second child, a daughter named Adira River Ohanian. Together with her spouse, Alexis Ohanian, the couple shared the joyous news through their social media accounts on Tuesday.

In a touching TikTok video, Williams expressed her heartfelt sentiments: "Welcome, my beautiful angel." The video showcases Williams, Ohanian, and their four-year-old daughter Olympia embracing the newest addition to their family.

Ohanian also took to the messaging platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to share his gratitude and excitement: "I'm grateful to report our house is teeming with love: a happy and healthy newborn girl and a happy and healthy mama. Feeling grateful."

Having claimed an astonishing 23 Grand Slam titles, Williams had previously indicated a shift away from tennis after the U.S. Open last year, mentioning that she was "evolving away." Her pregnancy was confirmed in May, a revelation she made on the red carpet of the Met Gala in New York.

The arrival of their second child hints at a diminishing likelihood of a return to competitive tennis for the 41-year-old Williams, who stands as one of the most accomplished athletes in the sport's history.

NYSC Orientation Camp Resumes In Borno After 13 Years

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has marked a momentous occasion by launching an orientation camp in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.

This marks the revival of the camp after a lengthy 13-year absence, stemming from its closure in 2011 due to the escalating Boko Haram insurgency.

With the inauguration of Batch ‘B’ Stream 2 corps members, the Maiduguri orientation site came to life once more. NYSC State Coordinator, Mohammed Adamu, took a moment to extend appreciation to Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum for his instrumental role in reinstating the orientation program in the state.

Under the vigilant watch of the military, police, civil defensedefence, and civilian joint task force personnel, the corps members have found a temporary abode at the Arabic Teachers College, a provisional orientation venue.

Six hundred twenty-nine males and 496 females constitute the current corps members training in this revitalised setting.

Governor Zulum shared his joy regarding re-establishing the orientation camp in the state. He conveyed that this symbolic move underscores the gradual restoration of peace and security to the region after enduring years of insurgency.

In a visionary stride, Governor Zulum has directed NYSC officials to actively identify graduates specialising in science, medical, and para-medical fields, potentially paving the way for their future employment opportunities within the state government's workforce.
