October 17, 2024 Falana Demands Bobrisky Apologize and Retract Defamatory Statements Within 12 Hours

Falana Demands Bobrisky Apologize and Retract Defamatory Statements Within 12 Hours

Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, and his son, Folarin, have demanded that popular cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, retract defamatory statements linking them to an alleged N10 million bribe. They have also called for a public apology on all platforms that carried the false claims.

In a letter dated October 14, 2024, written by their legal team, Olorunfemi Akinyemi and Taiwo Olawanle, the Falanas gave Bobrisky a 12-hour deadline from receipt of the letter to issue the retraction and apology. Failure to comply will result in legal action, including claims for monetary damages, over the baseless accusations.

The letter stated: “We have confirmed that you exploited your recent imprisonment to extort money from artists and other members of the public. On May 4, 2024, you contacted Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, asking him for N3 million to secure special treatment at Kirikiri Correctional Centre. Even though Falz refused, you falsely claimed in a video that his father, our client, had agreed to write a letter of pardon for you and that N10 million would be needed to bribe officials for this favor.”

The letter further mentioned that Bobrisky had falsely alleged he paid N5 million upfront to a Senior Advocate of Nigeria to secure a government pardon for charges filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The Falanas’ letter emphasized that these allegations were fabricated to enrich Bobrisky at their expense, tarnishing Femi Falana’s reputation both locally and internationally.

"You have made these defamatory statements recklessly, knowing that you never contacted our client to write a letter of pardon on your behalf," the letter continued. "Our client has obtained pardon for over 300 Nigerians on a pro bono basis, but your false claims have caused serious damage to his reputation."

The letter concluded with a stern warning that if Bobrisky fails to retract his statements and issue an apology within the stipulated time, legal proceedings will be initiated against him for the defamatory remarks.

Dammy Krane Reacts to Falana Court Order: “VDM Didn’t Treat Me Right”

In a surprising twist, Nigerian singer Dammy Krane has criticized internet personality Verydarkman (VDM), who was recently ordered by a court to retract his defamatory statements against the Falana family. On October 15, 2024, Krane took to Instagram to express his frustration, stating that VDM had not acted fairly when he advocated for him during a past legal dispute.

Krane's comments referred to an incident in August 2024, when VDM publicly supported him after his reported arrest by fellow artist Davido. VDM had called for Krane’s release on social media. However, Krane now claims that VDM failed to properly investigate the facts before speaking out on his behalf.

"I feel like God is using this Falana case to show VDM that he didn't do right by me because if it was someone else, he would have looked into the evidence," Krane said in the video. He accused VDM of favoritism, alleging that VDM didn’t examine his case thoroughly before advocating for him.

Krane added, "VDM should have looked into the case where I said Davido owed me money for songs. I was simply speaking about what had been posted online. He didn’t investigate the evidence, just like with the Dangote case, where I repeated what the police said."

The singer further criticized VDM's activism, calling it "selective" and motivated by favoritism. Krane explained that he refused to apologize for the claims he made, as he believed them to be the truth and feared an apology would be used against him in court.

"If I had apologized, they'd have had evidence to take me to court. Now look at what's happening to him—after his apology, it’s turned into a 500-million-naira lawsuit," Krane added, referencing VDM’s current legal issues.

Court Orders VeryDarkMan to Remove Defamatory Video Targeting Femi Falana

A Lagos State High Court in Ikeja has ordered social media critic Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, to delete defamatory videos targeting renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana, SAN. The court further instructed Otse to refrain from making any future comments about Falana or his family.

This ruling follows Falana's statement revealing that he had considered filing criminal charges against VeryDarkMan after the latter accused him of facilitating a pardon for cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky. The controversy began on September 24, 2024, when VeryDarkMan leaked a recorded voice call in which Bobrisky allegedly claimed that singer Falz had contacted him during his six-month jail term.

In response, the Falanas issued a formal letter demanding that VeryDarkMan retract his statements and issue an apology within 24 hours.
