Nigerian Actress Jailed Six Months For Spraying New Naira Notes

On February 1, 2024, Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, sentenced actress Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin to six months in prison for spraying and stepping on new naira notes at a social event in Lagos State.

Omoseyin, initially pleading not guilty to the charges brought by the EFCC on February 13, 2023, changed her plea to guilty during the hearing, acknowledging the evidence against her.

The charges included tampering with N100,000 at a social occasion, violating the Central Bank Act, 2007. The prosecution, led by Z.B. Atiku, presented evidence, including the defendant's statement, forensic reports of her phone, and videos of the incident. The defence, represented by Afuye Adegbola, pleaded for leniency, highlighting Omoseyin's remorse and being a first-time offender.

In delivering the judgment, Justice Aneke sentenced Omoseyin to six months in prison, effective immediately, with an option of a N300,000 fine. ICPC operatives arrested the actress in Ikoyi after a video of her actions at the party, where she also flaunted wads of new naira notes, went viral. She claimed to have received the money from her fans, and a Range Rover was among the items recovered at her arrest.

Lil Frosh Requests Reconciliation With Davido At DMW

Sanni Goriola Wasiu, the emerging Afrobeats artist formerly associated with Davido's record label, Davido Music Worldwide (DMW), is now appealing to be reinstated as a signee.

In a recent interview, Lil Frosh expressed his desire to return to DMW without getting involved in any scandals, relationships, or public disputes. He emphasized, "What I'm seeking from everybody is, 'If you all can help me beg Davido, please help me.'"

Lil Frosh faced significant backlash after his ex-girlfriend, Okeoghene "ThaCuteGemini" Iyomaterie, accused him of physically assaulting her in 2020. Images of her bruised face circulated online, leading Davido to terminate Lil Frosh's contract with the label.

In response to the allegations and after internal investigations, Davido announced the termination of Lil Frosh's recording contract, severing all ties with the artist. Despite the police arresting Lil Frosh in 2021 in connection with the assault allegations, he has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

"I'm reiterating that I know nothing about what happened to the girl. Since 2020, my life has never been the same. I'm not happy. I'm depressed. I know nothing about everything I'm suffering from. It's affecting my career. It's affecting me mentally. Even brands are not ready to work with me," Lil Frosh shared.
