The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says the national grid has been restored.

The national power grid collapsed in the early hours of Sunday, causing a blackout nationwide.

Data from the Federal Ministry of Power showed that electricity generation on the grid plunged from 2,658 megawatts at 11 a.m. to 59 megawatts by noon on Sunday as power distributors lost supply from the grid.

In a statement on Sunday, the general manager of TCN’s public affairs, Ndidi Mbah, blamed the incident on gas supply constraints that continuously affect the grid's stability.

According to Mbah, the TCN initiated immediate restoration of the affected part of the grid, and the grid has been fully restored.

Mbah, however, said ensuring sufficient gas supply to power generating stations is crucial for grid stability, as sufficient generation allows for better grid management in the event of sudden generation losses.
