Osimhen Double Helps Napoli See Off Frankurt

Napoli made history by securing a place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the first time after a dominant performance against Eintracht Frankfurt, with Victor Osimhen netting twice in the match.

The Nigerian striker's powerful header just before halftime, following their two-goal lead in the first leg, settled any lingering doubts at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

Osimhen then doubled the lead in the second half, finishing off a brilliant cross from Giovanni di Lorenzo. Piotr Zielinski later converted a penalty after being fouled in the box by the Frankfurt defense, making it 3-0 on the night.

After the match, Osimhen expressed his delight, stating: "We want to enjoy the moment and look ahead. It's a great win, we re-wrote the history of this club... We follow our coach and look ahead."

With a massive 18-point lead in Serie A, Napoli's chances of winning the Champions League look promising as they advance to the quarter-finals.

Real Madrid Dumps Liverpool Out Of Champions League

Liverpool's hopes of making it to the Champions League semi-finals were dashed once again by Real Madrid.

This marks the third consecutive season that Liverpool has been knocked out by the Spanish giants, as they failed to overcome their first-leg Anfield demolition.

The Reds, who lost the first leg 5-2, came out with a bold strategy in the second leg at the Bernabeu, lining up with four forwards as they looked to add another famous comeback to their fabled European history.

However, their efforts were in vain as legendary Real striker Karim Benzema put the tie beyond doubt when he tucked in from Vinicius Jr's cutback late on.

Despite the defeat, Liverpool's goalkeeper Alisson was a standout performer, denying Vinicius and Eduardo Camavinga with magnificent first-half saves. If not for Alisson's heroics, Liverpool could have lost by a wider margin.

Liverpool players left the pitch listening to 'You'll Never Walk Alone' on the Bernabeu speakers as they pondered over their biggest ever aggregate Champions League defeat.

This loss puts the Reds in a difficult position to even qualify for the tournament next season, currently sitting six points behind the Champions League places.

Although Real Madrid emerged victorious, there was a downside as Benzema injured himself while scoring and had to be replaced.

However, the striker later assured fans that he will be fit for the upcoming must-win El Clasico with Barcelona on Sunday.

It's a disappointing end to Liverpool's Champions League campaign, but they will now focus on finishing the Premier League season strong and securing a place in next year's tournament.

I Almost Quit Athletics Before Becoming World Champion — Amusan

Tobi Amusan, the current world record holder and world champion in the 100m hurdles, recently revealed that she had considered quitting athletics last year if not for the intervention of her coach.

The 25-year-old Nigerian athlete made history by becoming the first Nigerian world champion in athletics after winning the 100m hurdles gold medal at the 2022 World Championships, where she set a world record of 12.12secs in the semi-final and 12.06secs in the final. She also clinched gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and successfully defended her Diamond League Trophy in Zurich, setting a new meet record of 12.29secs.

During a video chat with Justin Tuckey, Amusan disclosed that her victory at the World Championships was a pivotal moment in her career as it helped her overcome doubts about her future in athletics. Prior to her triumph, Amusan had seriously contemplated abandoning athletics to return to school.

“That was the moment of ‘did I just do that?’. But yes, it was months, years, and a crazy amount of training and hard work that people saw in 12secs. Sweat, tears, heartbreaks and on the verge of quitting literally every other year. You know seeing it unfold at that moment, with my coach in the stands was just ‘ma we did it’, you know it was just crazy,” Amusan said.

“That year, I was like if something doesn’t go right… And I felt like it was what actually got me into doing my Masters because I was looking forward to what if the season doesn’t go right? In as much as we want to do great things, God approves whatever thing we want to do, but then it’s more of I’ve been putting in the work and showing up every year and it was just fourth, fourth, so I was just tired,” Amusan added.

“It was a moment of God, you can still do something even when you’re broken and you feel like it’s over, because 2022 was supposed to be like my quit year.

“I mean if God doesn’t want to show up I can as well do something with my energy. So, it was just the moment I wanted to quit and God just showed up miraculously, so it was a huge moment for myself, my coach, my family and everyone who supported me.”
