Obasanjo Affirms Stance On Oyo Monarchs

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has denied one Madam Taiwo Martins, who apologised on his behalf for commanding some monarchs in Oyo State to stand up and greet Governor Seyi Makinde.

While issuing the command to the monarchs at a public event, Obasanjo noted that it was disrespectful of them not to stand up to greet a Governor.

Following the development, Madam Taiwo Martins, who claimed to be Obasanjo’s wife, apologised on behalf of the former President.

However, in a statement by his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo expressed annoyance that Taiwo Martins has authored a statement, appealing to Obas and Yorubas to forgive him as her husband, and insisted that he stands by his comments.

While conceding that he and the woman gave birth to two children, the former President stressed that she is neither his wife nor a member of his family.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo Has Disowned A Viral Letter

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has disowned a viral letter, alleged to have been written by him, asking Britain not to interfere in the forthcoming general election.

In a report published by some media outlets, Obasanjo was said to have asked Britain to “back down on the 2023 election and allow Nigerians to decide their candidate for once.” The letter claimed Britain attempted to rig the 2003 elections.

The letter also stated that Obasanjo reportedly said he would rather release the information he has with him, which will end Nigeria and put Britain in a bad light forever than for Peter Obi to lose.

But in a statement, Obasanjo’s media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, said the former president has no links with the viral letter.

Tinubu Visits Obasanjo, APC Supporters Flood Ex-President’s Residence

As Bola Tinubu, the APC's presidential candidate, paid a visit to former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Wednesday, a large group of the party's supporters in Ogun State swarmed his Abeokuta home.

At at 1:09 pm, Tinubu and a few other party leaders flew into the Penthouse of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Oke- Mosan, the capital of Ogun State, Abeokuta.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, former Governor Gbenga Daniel, Segun Osoba, and other Ogun State government officials welcomed him.

They have all entered the president's meeting.

The meeting was thought to be related to Tinubu's aspirations for the upcoming elections.

The two had not been spotted together, according to our correspondent, since he escorted the then-APC candidate, President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), to Obasanjo's home in 2015.

In March 2015, he attended the former President's 78th birthday celebration in Abeokuta.

Since Obasanjo withdrew his support for Buhari and the APC, which he helped bring to power by ripping his membership card from the Peoples Democratic Party, the two of them have maintained their distance from one another.
