Mitrovic Scores As Serbia Beat Norway To Promotion

Fulham's Aleksandar Mitrovic scored as Serbia beat Norway to clinch promotion to the top tier of the Nations League.

Needing to win, Mitrovic slotted home Ivan Ilic's pass from 16 yards for his 50th Serbia goal, and sixth in his past four games.

It was his 14th Nations League goal and doubled Serbia's lead after Juventus' Dusan Vlahovic's strike put them ahead.

Serbia have won promotion in two of the three Nations Leagues, having started in League C.

Norway would have been promoted with a point in Oslo.

Mitrovic's 14 goals in the Nations League is a record and he is also the leading goal scorer in this year's tournament. He has scored four goals in his last four away games.

He has now netted 12 goals in his past 11 matches for club and country and 58 in 65 games since the start of last season.

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland played the full 90 minutes for Norway, and had four shots, but failed to score for the 10th time in 23 international games.

The other game in Group B4 saw Sweden relegated to League C with a 1-1 draw with Slovenia

Messi Scores Twice In 100th International Win

Lionel Messi marked his 100th international win with two goals as Argentina comfortably beat Jamaica in a friendly.

The victory also extended Argentina's unbeaten run to 35, which is two behind Italy's world record of 37.

Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez put Lionel Scaloni's side in front after being set up by Lautaro Martinez.

Messi, 35, came on after 56 minutes before stroking in a shot and curling in a free kick late on.

The Paris St-Germain forward's double - on the back of scoring twice in a win against Honduras - took his tally to 90 in 164 appearances for his country.

The game in New Jersey was Argentina's last before the World Cup.

The two-time World Cup champions, who are among the favorites for this year's tournament, open their campaign in Qatar against Saudi Arabia on 22 November.

Spain Snatch Dramatic Win Over Portugal To Advance

Alvaro Morata grabbed a dramatic winner as Spain beat Portugal in Braga to qualify for the Nations League Finals.

The ex-Chelsea striker scored in the 88th minute from close range after Nico Williams headed the ball into his path.

Portugal only needed a point to advance and had chances to score but Liverpool's Diogo Jota and Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo both missed.

Spain will be joined in June's finals by Croatia, Italy, and the Netherlands, who are expected to host all the games.

Portugal began the night top of Group A2 and will be wondering just how they failed to book their place at next summer's four-nation tournament.

They had won the inaugural competition in 2018-19 and were the better team for most of the match in northern Portugal.

An excellent pass from Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes was collected by Jota, who shot at goal but was denied by a fine one-handed save by Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon.

The hosts continued to create better opportunities with Fernandes hitting the side-netting and Ronaldo having a shot blocked by Simon early in the second half.

Substitute Williams, who plays for Athletic Bilbao, made a difference for Spain and twice had efforts saved by Diogo Costa.

But the Portugal goalkeeper was beaten with only two minutes remaining when Williams' header went past him with Morata hooking the ball into the roof of the net from close range.

Spain was runners-up in the Nations League Finals in 2021 and now has a chance to win the tournament in June.

Torino To Extend Ola Aina’s Contract

Torino president Urbano Cairo and sporting director Davide Vagnati are set to open negotiations with Ola Aina towards extending the Nigerian defender’s contract, according to Calcio Mercato.

Aina is in the last lap of his contract with Torino, with the four-year deal he signed in 2019 expiring in June 2023.

With Wilfried Singo, Valentino Lazaro, and Mergim Vojvoda options for Torino at right-back, Aina is not the first-choice full-back for manager Ivan Juric.

But the Super Eagles star has made six appearances for the Grenades in Serie A, and the club will have to decide whether to offer him a contract extension.

But the Super Eagles star has made six appearances for the Grenades in Serie A, and the club will have to decide whether to offer him a contract extension.

The versatile full-back failed to nail a starting spot for the Blues and after a temporary spell at Hull City, he joined Torino on loan in 2018.

The Nigeria international impressed in Turin and sealed a permanent transfer in 2019 for a reported €9.80 million.

Aina spent the 2020/2021 season on loan at Fulham but he could not earn a permanent contract in London after the English side got relegated from the Premier League.

Still held in high esteem in England, Aina was a subject of transfer interest from a couple of Premier League clubs including West Ham in the summer.
