In response to the escalating cases of rape, kidnapping, and declining education standards in Northern Nigeria, a group of passionate youths from Potiskum town, Yobe State, have organized a peaceful demonstration urging authorities to take decisive action.
Comrade Aliyu Haruna, the group leader, conveyed their purpose for the protest while addressing the press. He emphasized that they aimed to draw attention and prompt the relevant authorities to address these pressing social issues.
Haruna stated, “We simply embarked on this peaceful protest because of the deteriorating level of education in the North, as well as security gaps where young, innocent and poor girls are being raped and left helpless.”
During the protest, participants prominently displayed placards bearing powerful messages, including: ‘Stop Killing #Brothers and Sisters in the North’; ‘End Kidnapping, Raping’; and ‘Bring Back our Girls’. This visual representation encapsulated the urgency and gravity of the situation they were protesting against.
