Following the recent nomination by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Dr. Olayemi Michael Cardoso has assumed the role of Acting Governor at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
This appointment is pending confirmation by the Senate. The move comes after the resignation of Mr. Godwin Emefiele as CBN Governor.
Additionally, the Deputy-Governors-Designate have taken on their roles in acting capacities following the resignations of Mr Folashodun Shonubi, Mrs Aishah Ahmad, Mr. Edward Lametek Adamu, and Dr Kingsley Obiora as Deputy Governors of the CBN.
Dr. Cardoso and his colleagues took their oaths of office at a brief ceremony held at the Bank’s Head Office in Abuja in September 2023. They have since been actively overseeing the implementation of the Federal Government's monetary and financial sector policies.
Prior to this appointment, Dr. Cardoso held roles as an Economic and Development Policy Advisor, Financial Sector Leader, former Chairman of Citi Nigeria, and served as Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget in Lagos.
