Mrs Chidinma Amaechi, a 28-year-old woman who had been married for nine years, gave birth to quintuplets, three boys and two girls, via caesarian section on Thursday at the Life International Hospital in Awka, Anambra State.
Her husband, Mr Tochukwu Amaechi, is a trader based in Onitsha and was unemployed at the time of conception, which occurred naturally. Mrs Amaechi completed her National Youth Service Corps programme in July 2022.
The babies are currently receiving intensive care at the hospital, with a daily incubator bill of N250,000, and are expected to remain there for approximately 30 days.
Mrs Amaechi has appealed to the government and kind-hearted individuals to assist her in settling the medical bill, which currently amounts to over N7.5 million.
She said, “This bill amounts to about N7.5m aside from other huge bills already accumulated in the last two months of managing the delicate pregnancy at the hospital.
“We are calling on philanthropists, government and non-governmental organisations to come to our aid to enable us to settle the huge medical bills so we can reap the full benefits of God’s blessings upon our family.”
One of the caregivers, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the children and their mother were responding to treatment.
Interested members of the public can donate to the new mother through her First Bank account: 3093053283 Mrs Chidinma Anthonia Amaechi.
