Renowned Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has condemned the recent controversial statement made by Datti Baba-Ahmed, the vice presidential candidate for the Labour Party.
Baba-Ahmed had stated that the swearing-in of President-elect Bola Tinubu could mean the end of democracy in Nigeria.
Speaking during an appearance on Arise TV on April 5, 2023, Soyinka described Baba-Ahmed's comments as unbecoming and stated that he had never heard such language used for blackmail.
Soyinka further noted that Baba-Ahmed's do-or-die provocation is not what the people of Nigeria have been struggling for, and it goes against the principles of democracy. He added that he had never heard such blackmailing language before.
